The Internal Revenue Service assigns Prometric to conduct the three-part EA Test, also known as the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE). You have 3.5 hours to complete each part's 100 questions, which are given as separate exams. The IRS Special Enrollment Test (SEE) is the simplest exam that grants you unrestricted practise opportunities with the IRS.

To be deemed a tax expert, an enrolled agent must "demonstrate special competence in tax matters" by completing three separate exams. The degree of difficulty relies on experience, but those who are willing to put in the work can earn the credential.

An enrolled agent, also known as an EA, is a tax expert with government authorization who works to advise American taxpayers on issues involving the Internal Revenue Service. (IRS). Obtaining "EA" status is regarded as the highest honour given by the IRS and is officially recognized in each of the 50 U.S. states.

Regarding their professional responsibilities, enrolled agents have the authority to speak on behalf of American taxpayers before the IRS regarding problems like audits, collections, and tax appeals.

Existing laws allow EAs to offer advisory services and produce tax returns for anything that the IRS requires reporting. They offer their services to organisations like companies, trusts, estates, and individual taxpayers.

Eligibility

If you want to study EA, you are not required to have any prior qualifications. Graduates with a basic grasp of accounting are eligible to apply, but they must demonstrate their proficiency in the subject matter related to taxes. This may occur in one of two ways:

Passing the examination for special enrollment (EA Exam)

A candidate must pass all three sections of the Special Enrollment Examination (Individuals, Businesses and Representation, Practices, and Procedures) with PTIN passing scores in order to pursue their goal of becoming an EA. This examination covers a significant proportion of Internal Revenue Code. There isn't a definite pattern. There is no definite order to attempt the exam. The candidate is free to choose which part comes first. To obtain the EA certification, passing all three parts is the only requirement.

There are no prerequisites for education or work expertise on the EA exam. Instead, all you need to take the SEE test is a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).

IRS Experience

The Internal Revenue Code's provisions and the rules governing income, inheritance, gift, employment, and excise taxes must be applied and interpreted on a regular basis in the position for which candidates have worked at the IRS for five years in a row.

SCOPE OF ENGAGED AGENTS
  • 1. Prepare US tax returns

  • 2. Represent clients before Internal Revenue Service (IRS)

  • 3. IRS customer appeals

IRS Special Enrollment Examination

The Enrolled Agent Exam, also known as the Special Enrollment Exam (SEE), is a requirement.

The EA exam has a testing window that goes from May 1 to February 28. (29 in a leap year). Every question regards the previous calendar year. In the months of March and April, the IRS modifies the SEE test. The IRS then releases an updated version of the test each May. The most recent tax legislation as of December 31 of the prior year serves as the IRS's foundation for the new version.

There are no prerequisites for education or work expertise on the EA exam. Instead, all you need to take the SEE test is a Preparer Tax Identification Number. (PTIN).

The EA exam has 3 parts:
